The group sang their new single Gave It All Away, which features Gately’s vocals, on ITV1′s GMTV programme.

The song is taken from the band’s new album Brothers and pays special tribute to Gately, who died of natural causes in October last year at his holiday home on the island of Majorca.

Singer Ronan Keating admitted the band were nervous about performing without Gately.
He told Lorraine Kelly: “We’ve spoken about it.
We recorded this song about nearly 18 months to two years ago – when Stephen first put the vocal on.
“So we’ve had it for a long, long time…
“But this is now the point where we start performing it…
“This is the part we’ve been nervous about. Because we don’t know what it’s going to be like as a four piece and actually getting out there and singing it – so I guess it will just take time to figure out.”
He added: “He was very proud of this vocal that he put on this song. He loved this song, he sang it all the time.”
The performance took place on the same day that the Press Complaints Commission (PCC) ruled that a Daily Mail comment piece about Gately’s death did not breach press guidelines.
Gately’s civil partner Andrew Cowles had complained to the PCC about two articles written by columnist Jan Moir in the Daily Mail on October 16 and October 23 last year.
