Market Wire, November, 2009

Sphere Security
and SightLogix, Inc. jointly announced that the two companies have
entered into a reseller partnership. SightLogix, a US-based manufacturer,
will be supplying its automated

Fitch Affirms Webster University’s (Missouri) Revs at ‘A-’; Outlook

0 Comments | Wireless News, Nov 23, 2009

Fitch Ratings reported it has affirmed its ‘A-’ rating on approximately $28.9 million of outstanding State of Missouri Health and Educational Facilities Authority revenue bonds issued on behalf of Webster University (Webster).

The bonds are secured by a gross pledge of revenues and first mortgage over property and improvements at Webster’s main campus in St. Louis, MO. The Rating Outlook is Stable.

The ‘A-’ rating reflects Webster’s track record of positive operations; solid balance sheet liquidity; and stable enrollment. Primary credit concerns include the university’s low revenue diversity and heavy reliance on student-generated revenues. An additional concern surrounds the complexities involved with operating a growing international and online university with a large part-time student component, although this risk is partially mitigated by Webster’s experienced leadership team and prudent strategic planning.

Webster maintains solid balance sheet liquidity. Available funds, defined by Fitch as unrestricted and temporarily restricted cash and investments, totaled $128.4 million in fiscal 2009; up 137 percent since fiscal 2005. For fiscal 2009, available funds covered operating expenses ($169.7 million) by 75.7 percent and total debt ($66.8 million) by 192 percent. The university intends to issue approximately $32 million of new debt in February 2010, which would reduce the available funds to pro forma debt ratio to an approximate, still healthy, 130 percent. Webster’s investment portfolio is relatively conservative, with minimal exposure to illiquid alternative asset classes. Furthermore, Webster is in the silent phase of a new fundraising campaign with a tentative goal of $50 million.

Webster has generated positive operating margins for the past several fiscal years; 11.6 percent in fiscal 2009

You’ll see a lot less of Elton from now on

HEIS at that age when trying to shift those extra pounds simply results in them stubbornly clinging on.

But as this picture of a rather more streamlined Elton John shows, he has finally managed it.

It took six long months of dieting and daily tennis matches – and then just a few weeks of a rather unfortunate debilitating illness – to finally shed the extra weight.

By all accounts, the previously portly 62-year-old singer, pictured at an Aids gala in New York, is two stone lighter than this time last year. He is due to perform in the U.S. on Friday after recovering from a combination of flu and e.coli.

Dropping beats on blessings: ‘Holy hip-hop’ looks to enter

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Terverius Black believes in hip-hop gospel so much he sold his first home to get the money needed to start his Christian-themed entertainment company.

It was a risky move, but the 34-year-old entrepreneur believes the company’s diversity, which is producing music, a film, a reality television show and a gospel cruise, will help boost a struggling genre of Christian music.

Secular hip-hop used radio as a launching pad, but holy hip-hop gets little play on regular hip-hop stations and nearly none on gospel or Christian radio.

“It’s tough, but we’ve got to get a little more creative,” said Black, who started Xist (pronounced “exist”), based in Huntsville, Ala., Worldwide Record Label three years ago with partner Sean Simmonds.

Both men point to hip-hop moguls like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jay-Z and Russell Simmons, who succeeded branching outside the music industry. Even though their message is faith-based, Black and Simmonds believe they can find the same success.

“We’re trying to create our own blueprint for gospel, but at the same time, make it so that it’s respected across the board, and can be followed,” said Simmonds, 32.

Hip-hop gospel has been around nearly two decades, but many followers say it didn’t start getting recognized until a few years ago. So far this year, there have been more than 500,000 CD and digital sales of hip-hop gospel, according to the Christian Music Trade Association, which operates Christian SoundScan.

Supporters also point to an increasing number of hip-hop gospel fan Web sites.

“I think holy hip-hop music is starting to make a move,” said Danny Wilson, a former road manager for rapper-actor LL Cool J and the main organizer of the Holy Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta. “Look how long it took regular hip hop to take. You’re talking about 25 to 30 years for it to really make an impact to the point that it’s a driving culture that’s known all over the world.”

Wilson said better air play of hip-hop gospel would make it a more effective tool in reaching the unchurched. He cites a syndicated two-hour radio show sponsored by Holy Hip Hop Awards that airs once a week in about 100 cities.

“We get letters from prison all the time,” Wilson said

Aetna Axes Jobs

In a bid to become more efficient, the health insurer Aetna Inc.
(NYSE: AET)
announced on Wednesday its intention to shed a total of 1,250 jobs or
about 3.5% of its total workforce by the first quarter of 2010.
Management intends to do so in two phases, by slashing 625 jobs now and
the remaining early next year.

The company expects to record after-tax restructuring charges of $40
million in fourth quarter 2009. Last December, the company cut 1,000
jobs, which was 3% of its total workforce. The company plans to slash
majority of the jobs at its headquarters in Connecticut.

Aetna with a total head count of 35,500 is eliminating jobs to cope with
the difficult economic environment and potential impact that the health
care reform might cast on its health insurance business. Elimination of
excess workforce will help streamline the business by optimizing
staffing level, thereby maintaining efficiency.

During the third quarter of 2009, Aetna earned $326.2 million, or 73
cents per share. That represents an increase from $277.3 million, or 58
cents per share, in the same quarter last year. Membership has slumped
throughout the health insurance sector as employers have cut jobs,
reducing the number of people coveredby employer-sponsored plans.

Aetna rivals UnitedHealth Group Inc. (NYSE: UNH)
and WellPoint Inc. (NYSE: WLP)
both recently saw enrollment declines in the third quarter. Last week,
