The genius of Corb in its many manifestations comes to Liverpool

Architectural Review, The, Nov, 2008 by Brian Hatton

‘My friend M. Le Corbusier is an amateur manifesting abundance architect and professional painter,’ Fernand Leger once remarked. Indeed Paris discovered Le Corbusier, or Charles-Edouard Jeanneret, as he was in 1917, as a painter, when he and Amedee Ozenfant launched an art movement, Purism, in their manifesto Apres Le Cubisme and journal L’Espril Nouveau. That Corbusier was an artist in every pictorial, plastic and tectonic field, is abundantly conveyed in this exhibition. Its three sections Contexts, Privacy and Publicity, and Built Art display a panorama of dazzling achievement in craftwork, drawing, painting, sculpture, furniture. polemics, interiors, architecture, and the design of cities, Le Corbusier was a prodigy who made everything look insouciant and effortless, leaving you wondering ‘Why can’t it always DC like this?’ Too easy? Certainly, too easily assumed lobe easily repeated in a compromising world of trimmers and dimwits

Buzz good for Bayport barber

Long Island Business News, Oct 30, 2009 by Ambrose Clancy

Lisa Sesso wasn’t going to be shut out this time.

After working for 23 years cutting men’s and boys’ hair in other people’s shops, she had a chance awhile ago to open her own place. But someone beat her to the punch to buy the established barber shop she’d had her eye on.

“I decided the next opportunity I got I was going to jump on it, so I’d never again say, ‘Shoulda, coulda, woulda,’” Sesso said.

Her opportunity is now a reality in the form of an 800-square- foot space in Bayport called Hats Off. Sesso welcomed her first client two weeks ago.

She did her homework, scouting the area thoroughly before deciding that a small barber shop would survive in her location.

The startup cost was about $8,000 and Sesso is marketing herself to the tune of about $400 a month, mostly through flyers, print ads and the Internet.

The nearest chain salon, a Head Cutters, is about half a mile from Hats Off. Sesso will compete with the big boys by pushing personal service even while charging a bit more. Head oppo bdp-83 review Cutters generally charges around $10 for mens’ and boys’ cuts, while Sesso’s rates are $12 for men and $10 for boys.

She also has a policy of honoring any coupon that is given out by the big chains.

Independent barber shops seem to be holding their own against the chain salons

* ON BREAKING INTO ACTING: When I first was going out-especially on commercial auditions–I would sit there and I’d be in, like, a forest of models and there would be legs for days and I felt like a troll. [In L.A.] you can have, in one room, women of every single race and ethnicity and it will still be a really homogeneous effect. It has to do with a particular aesthetic, a particular notion of what’s beautiful, and everyone adopts it. And I just don’t fit it.

* ON FEMINISM: I’m very proud to call myself a feminist. I think that way too many people are inexplicably turned off by the word. I don’t know why.

EcoloCap Solutions Inc. Analyzes M-Fuel Users Carbon Credit Earning Potential

Market Wire, October, 2009

EcoloCap Solutions Inc. (OTCBB: ECOS), through its subsidiary EcoloCap Solutions Canada Inc. (‘EcoloCap Canada’), today announced that it is conducting an analysis of MBT M-Fuels impact on the environment in relation to its carbon credit earning potential, and the economic significance for M-Fuel users.

EcoloCap Canada, having developed over a dozen Clean Development Mechanism (‘CDM’) projects, is a leading provider of carbon credit origination and consultancy services to the world’s environmental and energy markets, and is providing ongoing advisory for all M-Fuel users.

MBT’s M-Fuel has been proven through laboratory tests and on site usage to reduce fuel costs by some 25%, depending on the cost of preprocessed fuel. In addition, it reduces the emission of greenhouse gases on an average of 60%, resulting in the creation of an important source of Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits. Potential M-Fuel users such as, fleet operators of buses, trucks, boats, heavy equipment, and fixed machinery, will financially benefit not only from the considerable fuel cost savings, but from CER generated income as well.

An analysis being conducted by Dr. Tri Vu Truong, CEO of EcoloCap Canada, conservatively estimates that considering the existing projections, M-Fuel will produce several million CER’s per year. With CER’s presently trading at over $19 USD on the world market, the economic impact contributes significantly to the already promising proposition.

Dr. Truong cites the following example from his ongoing analysis: “A 55,000 horsepower ship traveling 12,000 miles roundtrip between Inchon, Korea and Los Angeles, USA uses approximately 945,000 gallons per trip of bunker oil at $1.54 USD per gallon. Based on an average of 5 trips per year, using M-fuel as an alternative, fuel cost would be reduced by $200,000 USD per trip or $1,000,000 USD annually. At the same time, CO2 emissions would be reduced by 220,000 tons per trip, generating $4,000,000 USD of Carbon Credits annually.”

Dr. Truong concludes: “We are thrilled with M-Fuels initial results and will continue to carpet shampooer evaluate its impact on the environment in the form of Carbon Credits earned and its users overall financial benefits”.

TELECOMMUNICATIONS : FRANCE BROKERS POLITICAL DEAL ON TELECOMS PACKAGE.

Tech Europe, December, 2009

The French EU Presidency met its goal of brokering a political agreement on the complete telecoms package, meant to improve competition and offer better protection to European consumers, on 27 November in Brussels. The United Kingdom, Sweden and the Netherlands abstained on the regulatory aspects of the reform, and thus did not block a unanimous vote by the 27. The negotiations with the European Parliament and the Commission at second reading nevertheless promise to be tough, given their still widely diverging views at this stage.
